The course is divided into three modules
Module 1: Principles, Techniques and Key Language
This module introduces the principles of EMI and equips participants with essential techniques and language to engage students effectively. Delivery is typically online, combining self-study tasks with live input sessions.
Module 2: Observed Teaching Practice and Feedback
Participants receive guided support in lesson planning and practice teaching in English with peers. Lessons are observed by our consultants, who provide detailed feedback, including tailored tasks to address language challenges and fine-tune delivery. This module is available online or face-to-face at your institution.
Module 3: Continuing Professional Development
This module enables teachers to continue to refine their skills in their own teaching environment. It includes strategies for developing subject-specific skills and vocabulary, assisted lesson planning, and tasks for reflection and self-evaluation. Teachers can record their classes and share their findings with peers and trainers, and there are also options for further observation and language support where required. This module combines online self-study, peer collaboration, teaching practice and live input sessions.
Course Length: 30-40 Hours
Language Level required: B2+*
*The required language level for teacher training courses of this type is usually C1. We can make courses accessible to participants with a lower level of English proficiency through additional language support modules and graded tasks.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to do the following in English:
- Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessons and lectures tailored to diverse student needs.
- Demonstrate concepts, describe processes, and explain topics clearly.
- Monitor and support students during tasks.
- Field and respond to student questions confidently, offering clear explanations and relevant examples.
- Provide constructive feedback on tasks.
- Scaffold language and content effectively, supporting students’ understanding of subject-specific vocabulary and concepts.
- Manage classroom interactions, including group discussions, debates, and collaborative tasks.
EMI Trainer-Training Courses
We understand the value of helping educational institutions develop their own training team, as this allows them to reduce their reliance on outside or freelance trainers, develop trainers with a good understanding of local culture and students needs, and save money by using their own team.
Content is flexible and based on the needs, experience and language level of the trainee trainers. Typical features of trainer-training are:
- Online tasks to assess the trainee trainer\'s level of English and understanding of EMI
- Shadowing one of our expert trainers as they deliver an EMI training course
- Planning and delivering EMI input sessions, observed and assessed by our expert trainers
If one of our expert trainers is delivering an EMI course at your institution, one of your own trainers can be trained at the same time. Once this is done, you have the freedom to deliver large amounts of our training courses with your own trainers and provide your participants with extensive training support at a low cost.
